Gyms Fun Facts: Paradise Gymnastics, formerly named Walpole Gymnastics, has been known as “The Fun Place to Keep Fit.” Inez and Billy May, a husband and wife team, both raised in Walpole, were High School sweat hearts and have been married for 24 years with 2 children. Walpole Gymnastics started in the Foundry building in Walpole in 3,200 sq. ft. as a home for gymnasts and dancers. Before that time, the spot had been a dance school run by Connie Waldron for over 50 years. Not long after the Mays took over the business, it became an establishment focused entirely on gymnastics. We moved away from dance because our passion was gymnastics. Since that time, the passion has shown through. After 5 years, we had grown and moved to Norfolk St., which had 8,000 sq. ft. In it’s 10th year, we built a gym specifically designed for gymnastics. Walpole gymnastics has produced more than twenty gymnasts who won individual state championships titles, several team state championship titles and 2 individuals that have won regionally. Regionally means that you are the best in 7 States. As competition is important to some, it is not everything. While the success of many schools is based on how many championships or high-level athletes it may have, the success of Walpole/Paradise Gymnastics is based upon how much fun gymnastics is while learning the basic precepts of doing the sport. At the end of each year we put on a very elaborate recital. All kids who wish to participate feel like a champion before it is all over. Each child performs a group routine that is so much fun. The gym was built specifically for this sport. For the recitals and also for the kid’s night, the gym has an array of colored overhead lighting and spotlights to make any athlete feel special. All gymnastics schools are different. Some gyms are very recreational and some very competitive. Some are very strict and some very lax. We are somewhere right in the middle. We provide a program that promotes quality for children, beginner through advanced, while at the same time has lots of fun. We believe that the rewards of teaching gymnastics as seeing the kids each day and how happy they are and we enjoy seeing the confidence it builds in them all. We are so proud that we are able to build such a successful business by doing what we love. It pleases us that we can be such a big part of children’s lives. Welcoming a New High Level Coach In 2005, the Mays, the owners of Paradise Gymnastics stepped away from High-Level gymnastics and had been searching for the right person with similar philosophies as they have in training. Till now, they did not have much luck. Paradise Gymnastics is proud to introduce its newest Jr. Olympic High-Level coach, Tim O’Leary. Tim has an impressive background. He has owned his own gym for the past 6 years training High-Level gymnasts. He coached the gymnastics team at Brown University for 5 years and had won many awards. To name a few, Tim was honored with “Coach of the Year” by the Boston Globe, was the ECAC “Coach of the Year” and was the Head Coach of the Bridgewater/Raynham State Championship Team in 2000. Tim has had 2 of his level 10 gymnasts qualify to Nationals and has been the Head Coach for the High School National Team in 2001, 2003 and 2005. Last year Tim was the Head Coach of High School Nationals for Massachusetts where his team placed 2nd. Tim is also an active member of the USA Gymnastics and is the current MIAA director. The Mays couldn’t be happier to welcome Tim to their beautiful facility. The Mays are still very active with the recreational groups and the lower level teams. From the lower level-beginner athlete to the highest advanced, they are proud of their gym and the level of safety and quality the gym offers while using proper technique. The Mays have also produced more than twenty gymnasts who had won Individual State Championship titles, several Team State Championship titles and 2 individuals that had won Regionally. Regionally means that you are the best in 7 States, (all of New England and New York). With the Mays and Tim working together and with their extensive background and many years of experience, Paradise Gymnastics will certainly stay on the map as one of the finest gyms in Massachusetts. Paradise Gymnastics is
also active in fundraising for children in need. The gym has
been raising money for the St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital since
the time it has opened the doors and the coaches and children of the gym
have raised thousands of dollars annually.

Kids Learn gymnastics and tumbling safely by using proper technique. We train drills, lead-up skills, strength and flexibility. We have a game plan in mind with specific drills to achieve your child’s specific goals. We don’t use terms such as, “Try it again, Go faster, Go harder, or the Suck it up, approach.” We teach by knowledge and positive re-enforcement. All kids learn Why and How skills work, because Knowledge is Key. Has your child been exposed to seeing other kids getting injured, wearing wrist and ankle supports? Just practicing the skills over and over pounds the body and that is not what makes you do a skill or get better at it. Doing a skill over and over leads to frustration, fatigue and sometimes injuries. We use a step-by-step positive method of teaching beginner through advance skills. Our techniques are used by nationally ranked gymnastics and tumbling champions and coaches. We are CPR and Safety Certified and are governed by the United States Gymnastics Federation and the National training staff has visited and trained us right here in our own gym. These techniques work and are most importantly SAFE. Equipment: Gymnastics skills and Tumbling is not meant to be
performed on a wrestling mat. We have all the equipment
used for children from the beginner to an Olympic ranked athlete.
We have the best manufactured Spring Floor on the market, vault,
bars, high and low beams, trampoline, tumble-trak, tumbling strip, resi and
loose foam pits, overhead spotting belts, an array of shaped training mats
and hundreds of drills and lead-up skills to assist in training a beginner
to advanced athlete. We also have party equipment such as
the Parachute, the Super-slide, the Moon-walk and inflatable Caterpillar.
